Your job is unique, and whether you need to install replacement windows or upgrade to double glazing we will provide a personal service and use the right application methods for the job.
Ensuring your window installation is weather tight
Correct installation is essential to prevent water penetration into your home or building. Large (and particularly double glazed) windows require special attention to supporting the sill with the weight of the window and glass distributed into the structure of the building. A series of purpose designed extruded aluminium support bars are available to transfer the load back to the wall.
In order to make sure the window or door is weather tight a flashing or flashings must be used in conjunction with suitable materials for stopping air being blown around the window or door into the building. Failure to do this correctly may result in long term water damage.
Following correct window installation procedures
As damage to surfaces can occur during building construction, care must be taken to protect the surfaces of the aluminium and window glass. Cement based products will scratch glass and powder coat surfaces and are very aggressive to anodised surfaces. If mortar splashes occur, immediately wash joinery with plenty of clean water. For paint splashes, do not allow splashes to harden - spot clean with methalated spirits and then wash with plenty of clean water.
The typical aluminium window in New Zealand comes fitted with a timber jamb liner, also know as a reveal. The window installation is usually done by nailing or screwing through the jamb liner into the wall structure.
Make sure your window installer refers to details available from your window supplier or from the Window Association of New Zealand website. These publications provide solutions for the installation of windows and doors to meet clause E2 "External Moisture" of the New Zealand Building Code.
